CITI Birla Awards

Birla Economic and Textile Research Foundation (BETRF) was established in 1983 with the objective of encouraging researchers in the industry.  Each year the foundation decides particular area of excellence as subject matter and confers the Award to a Textile Mill for excellence or outstanding research in any branch of textile industry or its allied branches by its appointed board of Jury. The award consists of a citation and cash prize of Rs. 200,000.

Board of Trustees for the BETRF are constituted of Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) office bearers, namely, Chairman, Deputy Chairman and Vice Chairman as Trustee members. Shri R K Dalmia and Shri D K Agrawal are as other trustees of the foundation. Secretary General of CITI is Honorary Secretary of BETRF. Directors of Ahmedabad Textile Industry’s Research Association (ATIRA), The Bombay Textile Research Association (BTRA), North India Textile Research Association (NITRA) and The Southern India Textile Research Association (SITRA) are appointed Jury members for the CITI-Birla Textile Awards selection group. Presently Director BTRA is appointed Chairman of the Jury to determine the grant of Award.

The foundation confers ‘CITI-Birla Textile Awards’ annually on those who come out with substantial contributions to the advancement and development in textiles and other allied industries and trades. BETRF started to get applications directly from mills and also through member associations of the CTI since 1992-93.

First time the trustees decided that the Award was given for “Effective Cost Reduction by Textile Mills”. In subsequent years various topic has been decided and corresponding awardees are got selected for ‘CITI-Birla Textile Awards’ as given below:
